Wild Writers Fifth Anniversary Edition Synopsis

Why read this book? Because everybody – from the cosmic to the microscopic – has a story to tell. I have always wanted to know what goes on inside the heads of animals. Poetry was the tool that made this possible. “Wild Writers” allows us to have imaginary conversations with our pets and other creatures and empathize with them. Who knows? We might end up learning new things along the way. This 5th Anniversary Edition contains all of the poetry and art from the previous books in the series, and brings them together into a special anthology for your enjoyment today.

Andrew Blitman Author Biography

My name is Andrew Blitman. I grew up in Cooper City, Florida, and blogged on WordPress. In 2011, my blog posts were compiled into a book, which later led to the creation of more books on Amazon. You can purchase my paintings at FineArtAmerica.com. You can listen to my spoken word poems on SoundCloud, too. You can also read more of my written works on andrewblitman.com or on AllPoetry for free.

I have currently written 15 books, including 5 comprehensive anthologies of poetry, three illustrated poetry books written and drawn from the perspective of animals as well as a hardcover 5th anniversary edition which contains all three of them in a single book, as well as a memoir about my December 2012 Birthright trip to Israel, as well as a Book of Pun-ishment that contains over 700 original jokes.

In early 2022, I created a portfolio book that contains more than 300 original paintings. My most recent book is called The Blue Book of Poetry and Life. I currently have 8 books copyrighted by the Library of Congress as well.

I graduated from the University of Miami in 2012 and earned my Masters of Professional Science at UM’s Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science. My Masters in particular was in Marine Conservation Science and Policy and I received it in 2014. My Masters thesis focused on billfish fisheries management plans in the Caribbean under the supervision of the Billfish Foundation (TBF), and I was invited to present my work at the 2015 ESRI User Conference in San Diego because of the way I used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create my project.

Aside from all of the previously mentioned things, I have also worked as a social media coordinator for the nonprofit organization, Universal Aid for Children in Ukraine. I have also worked as an exhibit guide and horseshoe crab handler at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale. I have also worked for Nova Southeastern University ‘s and Broward County’s sea turtle conservation program, where I monitored sea turtle nests and released hatchlings when they emerged from protected/caged nests, into the ocean.

I have autism, and I served on the Constituency Board at the University of Miami-Nova Southeastern University ‘s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities from 2011-2017, and I currently serve on the Els for Autism’s advisory board, as I have since 2018. I am the 2023 recipient of the Els for Autism’s Autism Spectrum Award, which I received for my contributions to South Florida’s autism community. For the past two years my paintings have been displayed in the Els Center for Autism’s pavilion gallery, and my works have been featured in the Florida Atlantic University and the Boynton Beach Cultural Center’s Art and Autism Expo for the past 3 years.

I have also frequently worked for the Els for Autism’s summer camps, and I have served, created, managed, and led their summer art program for the past four years. Prior to this, I also worked at the Dan Marino Foundation’s college for adults with autism (also called the Marino Campus).

I currently work as an academic tutor and mentor for a nonprofit organization called Firewall Centers. I have been with them for the past 9 years, and I loved working with them on every level, and I have taught students from every grade between elementary and high school, as well as a virtual tutor for elementary school students during the days when Florida’s schools were shut down by COVID. Most of our students are falling behind and are unable to afford our services on their own, so we at Firewall provide them for free thanks in part to our donors and the government through AmeriCorps.
